Root Sequence Design Grammar¶
Short definition¶
A working Root Sequence synthesis of recurring cross-project design questions: a set of prompts for examining agency, authority, interoperability, resilience, legibility, provenance, consent, accessibility, repair, situated intelligence, and revisable experimentation without turning those prompts into universal rules.
The grammar's working orientation is that systems should expand the possibilities of those living with them while making power, consequences, and dependencies easier to understand and change. The canonical source explicitly marks that wording as a proposed synthesis rather than an approved slogan.
Role in the ecosystem¶
The Design Grammar is a shared routing and comparison artifact, not a second source of truth for every project. Root Sequence owns the cross-project synthesis; each project keeps authority over its own design decisions, evidence, implementation, governance, and canon.
It is deliberately compatible with different local answers. More provenance can conflict with privacy; common interfaces can burden local variants; automation can free one person while shifting maintenance to another. The grammar asks projects to name those tradeoffs and affected parties rather than pretending that one principle always wins.
Relationship to other identities¶
- Agency and Automation supplies the shared treatment of chosen participation, bounded delegation, affected-party authority, labor distribution, and recovery.
- Legible Systems supplies questions about understandable behavior, progressive technical depth, interoperability, and changeability.
- Intelligence Ecology supplies the selection-environment question around incentives, permissions, ownership, and surrounding conditions.
- Dynamic Coherence and Adaptive Continuity supplies the question of what should remain stable, what must remain changeable, and which future actions a decision opens or closes.
- Epistemic Discoverability and Knowledge Routing supplies the question of whether someone can reach the concepts, fields, methods, and sources they need before mastering expert vocabulary.
- Root Sequence Thought Routing supplies the provenance and canonical-home method for moving from a shared question to deliberate project-specific transformations.
The generated Idea Trail views remain derived navigation; they do not become competing canonical definitions.
Boundaries and provenance¶
The artifact was added to the public Root Sequence default branch on September 24, 2026 as an AI-assisted working synthesis awaiting author review. It is normative and organizational, not a validated theory or evidence that every Root Sequence project already implements every recurring move.
project-origin records the provenance of this Root Sequence artifact and its current formalization. It is not a claim that the generic phrase “design grammar” was coined by Root Sequence, so no generic design grammar alias is registered.
