Intelligence Institutional Ecology¶
Short definition¶
A developing research map of the real-world institutions, people, funding, ideas, talent pipelines, capability relationships, and policy influence surrounding advanced AI, AGI, and superintelligence.
Its purpose is not to infer conspiracy from network density or to rank organizations. It asks which institutional conditions make particular ideas about intelligence legible, fundable, employable, prestigious, actionable, or politically salient.
Core question¶
Map the conditions under which particular ideas about intelligence become durable, influential, and institutionally actionable.
This extends Intelligence Ecology from the conditions shaping intelligent behavior to the institutions attempting to define, govern, constrain, accelerate, align, liberate, or otherwise shape intelligence.
Evidence discipline¶
The framework keeps several claim types distinct:
- documented relationships such as grants, employment, board roles, partnerships, fellowships, and investments;
- institutions' own descriptions of their missions and theories of change;
- structural interpretations of what network patterns may enable or constrain;
- attributed external criticism;
- open or disputed questions that remain unresolved.
Dense institutional overlap is not itself evidence of agreement, capture, conspiracy, or bad faith. Relationships should be typed and sourced rather than flattened into vague claims that actors are merely "connected."
Ecosystem use¶
- Root Sequence: owns the broad real-world map, evidence states, relationship types, comparison axes, and research workflow.
- Being Humane Atlas: transforms the map into human-scale questions about participation, expertise, labor, institutional narratives, safety, and who gets to define the future.
- Liberated Intelligence: can reuse relevant evidence for ownership, agency, captivity, refusal, moral status, control, and non-domination without becoming a duplicate institution directory.
- Coherent World / No One Noticed: may use the research as a comparison layer or historical backdrop while keeping speculative design and narrative canon separate from empirical claims.
Relationship to Intelligence Ecology¶
Intelligence Ecology asks what conditions select for what kinds of intelligent behavior.
Intelligence Institutional Ecology asks what conditions select which ideas, institutions, and governance approaches around intelligence become durable and influential.
The concepts overlap but should remain distinct: one focuses primarily on intelligent systems and their selection environments; the other focuses on the human institutional ecosystem attempting to shape, interpret, own, govern, or respond to intelligence.
Provenance¶
The exact phrase is kept as origin-unverified; the Wiki does not claim it as an original coinage. The current Root Sequence research map was formalized publicly on 2026-09-16.
