Human(e) Infrastructure

A Root Sequence systems concept for the durable social, technical, physical, institutional, informational, and care-supporting conditions that make humane capacity dependable rather than exceptional.

It asks what people should be able to rely on without repeatedly fighting, improvising, pleading, or becoming experts just to access ordinary life.

Ecosystem role

Human(e) Infrastructure follows Human(e) Design in the translation loop but is not simply “the implementation.” It focuses on durability: maintenance, stewardship, access, legibility, recovery, resilience, graceful degradation, low-coercion participation, and the dependency relationships around a system.

Community Infrastructure is one concrete proving ground. Coherent World is one speculative large-scale design space. Neither is the universal implementation of the concept.

Naming note

The exact stabilized label Human(e) Infrastructure was formalized on 2026-09-07. Earlier Root Sequence work contains adjacent phrases including human infrastructure, human-scale and human-speed infrastructure, and broader language about architecting humane infrastructure. Those earlier strands should be treated as conceptual ancestors rather than rewritten as if the current label had always been fixed.

Human Infrastructure is retained as an alias, but it is more ambiguous than Human(e) Infrastructure because it can also refer to people themselves as infrastructure. The canonical label keeps the ethical distinction visible.
